Kaleidoscope Pumpkins

September 29, 2008
These pumpkins were actually white in the photo but I felt like jazzing it all up. People have asked about the eye in the upper right corner. It started as just a blue dot, then it wanted to be an eye. So I let it. 16" x 20", oil on canvas, $225 plus s&h. Sale Pending

Close Enough

September 29, 2008
I was just tinkering with this painting I did of myself for the AFG (Austin Figurative Gallery) Self-Portrait Show this past Saturday night. Naturally everything is just a little off (since I don't use a grid or any accurate measurement technique, I just wing it by eyeballing), but I think I got myself darn close for about maybe 10 hours' work. This is much tighter than I like to paint lately but I'm still coming to grips with the details of my own features so it was hard to be loose. 20" x 16" oil on canvas, nfs.

Lars Thorwald the Morning After

20 x 16 oil on canvas on panel SOLD
September 22, 2008

This man reminds me a little of a Giotto madonna with his big strapping thighs sitting comfortably apart. I was just out running and thinking about this one, and wondered, is he way over to the side because he's hoping/waiting for someone to sit down with him? He sure has a lot of sumthin' in that sack, maybe lunch for two? I noticed he's looking at the movie section, last page - interesting. He kind of reminds me of Raymond Burr, the way he looked in Rear Window. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1737660416/ch0030606 . Maybe this is Lars Thorwald after the wife's murder, and now he's in the park planning a nice evening at the movies.

Rehoboth Beach

7 x 5 oil on canvas, private collection
September 18, 2008
I felt like trying something new this morning. I like big shapes and I want to use more exciting colors; I think I got both in this Rehoboth Beach painting.

Beach House

September 9, 2008
I've been working on this (16" x 20" oil on canvas) for the last couple of days. I passed it on my walk to the beach in Port Aransas -- a new one with no occupants yet. I didn't do any drawing beforehand as an experiment -- not sure that's a good idea with a house. Hawthorne says don't draw, just paint! Maybe he means except on houses. 16" x 20", oil on canvas.
