Camille, I really love this, the wait was well worth it. Your sketch was awesome, but the the painting looks like it evolved along the way, and the result is striking. Way to go, and on time...ha!

This is stunning, Camille! I really love this final version. It's bold and colorful but at the same time soft and dreamy. Very, very well done!

Sheila - It felt like cheating. I just needed "permission" to do what I wanted; I'm too much of a people-pleaser sometimes, I could have done it anyway, right?

Irit - Thanks to you, it's on time! :) Hooray!

Dana - I'm happy with the color but this photo pales it. I'll try to get a better photo that shows that the darks are really dark and the other colors are more vivid. I was so determined to have a good range of values this time and I want the photo to show that.

Vern - I really did totally change the mood and the girl, didn't I? Hey, I was feelin' the absolute power and it corrupted me absolutely into sending her to the 80's rocker makeover place.

Christine - I do like this version much better than yesterday's. Glad you do, too. Thanks for telling me! Oh, I showed my sister the portrait of you and she said her husband can never meet you. :D

Ha! All credit for my portrait goes to the flattering rendering and kind disposition of Marilyn! :)

This is wonderful! As always, I love your creative use of color. I'm glad you let your personal style take over...it works!

Kate - thank you so much, I love yours of Pat Burns!

Christine - um, sorry but I can tell that painting was done in ultra-realism. You're sizzlin'!

Paula - I'm so happy you like it. I think I channeled a little of your purple-loving color sensibility. Yesterday the whole thing was purple but I lavendar'd out the background today. I did try to let the dark purple show through though, although not as much as I meant to. Anyway I'm so glad you like it. :)

Camille, this is beautiful! It has a feel of book illustrations by Newell Wyeth (Andrew's father). I love it!

Wow, Akiko, that is a huge compliment! Thank you!

Camille what a beautiful portrait. very ethereal in some way. The richness of color is wonderful.

Dominique, thank you! Yesterday I swear it looked like a paint-by-numbers set piece. Luckily today I guess it somehow fell together :)

The final version is fabulous! I love what you did! Great job!

Thanks so very much, Edward! I thought this was a very "stretching" challenge and I'm sooo glad we all participated. I learn so much from looking at your work especially, as well as everyone's!

Carol - I keep chickening out on trying watercolor for one of these. Don't know if I'll work up the courage this time but you sure inspire me.

MaryAnn - it was a privilege to have you for my subject and thanks for setting me free to do my thing. I put some red in your previously blonde hair as a nod to both your haircolor incarnations :D. I'm so glad you like the final result, thank you!

Everyone else has beat me to the punch, but I want to weigh in too. It is stunning! I love the values & the colors & the dreamy thing is marvelous. The only thing I don't like is that I didn't paint it.

Love,
Siri/Laura

I was braced for what you didn't like... glad that was what it was! :D

Thank you for your very kind compliment, Camille, I'm very flattered.

It came out great! I also like the way this artist posed for her portrait. I was totally stymied when I found out that that particular challenge involved taking a photo of myself !

Camille LaRue Olsen said...

Thanks Mary! Yes, even though it was tricky to capture, her pose did give it a certain je ne sais quoi of contemplation or something. Yes, the photography aspect was a little intimidating.
