Portrait of Kelli Bland

November 2, 2009 -- When I'm not sure what to paint sometimes I'll take out an old AFG sketch and try to flesh it out some. Having to try and recall what the model looked like is tricky so as always, it's not an exact likeness. For example I don't recall she really had patchwork hair. 16 x 20 oil on board.

Fantastic that you can paint a portrait from a sketch! What is AFG? This is beautiful! The patches in this painting make it stand out. Nice colors.
Greetings!

Thanks, Annie. AFG is Austin Figurative Gallery where I got my new later-in-life start with my art. I used to go there once a week for the painting sessions that were only 5 dollars and I'd come home with lots of potential paintings from all the poses. I'm so glad you like this one, it was fun!

This is a great piece. Her eyes, nose, mouth are so striking and the patchwork around it frames is beautifully.

Wonderfully creative! Great delicate skin tones and I love the colors in the shading. What a great job on the hair!

I am mesmerized by this painting. Her eyes grab you and hold onto you and you cannot look away. I will be sad when it is sold.
