Great Times - study

6 x 6 oil on canvas
Here's a small study of some young boys in a small town athletic club. Specifically the Athens (TX) Athletic Club, in about 1932. More specifically that's my dad in the center of the front row. Written underneath the photo was "Estes Park, Colorado - Great times - Ersh."

Since I painted this from a blurry old black and white photo I thought sepia tones would work well just to establish major value areas. I really, really need to get some new brushes, the ones I used for this are like rakes, they're so old. Bad, bad, naughty Camille!

Your old rakes make interesting paintings Camille. I saw the photo on Facebook and hoped you would be painting it. I loved the gesture in the boys arms!

Dana, I loved that too and I'm so glad you reminded me about it. I'm working on a larger piece already, and I really need to get that gesture that says "Look at us, we're special!" Thanks for your input, friend!

Un beau travail... une touche très intéressante... qui entraîne le regard...

The photo on FB was intriguing and you did it justice with your painterly interpretation. I can really pick out each individual's different character. I think your brushes are working fine!

Doug, I'm glad it worked out better than I thought, thanks!

Martine-Alison, merci mon amie!

Pattie, that is a high compliment. I only intended to just put the forms in the right places, and before I knew it I felt their personalities reflected also, which was lots of fun. So happy I'm not the only one who noticed, yay! Thanks for that feedback.

Même si tu dois changer tes pinceaux Camille, sache que cette composition est une vraie réussite : j'adore!
