My Buddy

November 20, 2008
This 10"x 8" oil on canvas is our golden retriever Rio, our longtime companion who is no longer with us. I hope to get a lot of practice painting dogs. I was looking at Maggie Mayer's dog paintings of Banana Puddin, Champ and Francis and I got the fever just from looking at those. She does a fantastic job of capturing a dog's spirit. This one of Rio was going to be for sale but my daughters want to keep it. However if you would like a similar painting done from a photo, feel free to contact me about a commissioned piece.

Rio looks like he was such a faithful friend! I noticed you posted the piece from last week once in the post a bit larger but then changed it. Do you not like posting your work big? It would be nice to see all the beautiful brushwork that you do!

You can see closeups of all my work at my painting website: www.ekaweeka.com/569. The direct link is to your right on the main page. In the meantime I will be trying to figure out how to rearrange this blog so pictures can be seen big. It's hard to explain but I can only post a big picture at the top or bottom of all the written posts, not in-between each one. I need to get some tech person to come help me see how, if it can be done. So, check my other site for pictures that enlarge. Thanks, Alice!

Hi Camille, I've been back and forth to your blog here in what appears to be a disturbing amount of times, but I assure you, that I'm trying to figure out your problem with posting. I'll tell you what I do and see if it jives. Click on NEW POST, then write message, click on "BLUE SKY" icon 3rd from the right, browse your images and click on the the winner, then select the layout and image size. I have been choosing the large size and have had the opposite problem to you. (Mine blow up larger than the original some times). Then upload the image and Bob should still be your uncle. Hope this helps. By the way, that's quite the little traffic monitor you have on your blog. How far back does it go?

Love the pooch by the way.

Thanks, Vern for the instructions, will see what I can do on that but I doubt it will be today. The traffic meter thingy was something I put on here just to see if I was only talking to myself, as I strongly suspected. At the time I think that was right. It scrolls off the page and is lost forever after that (to my knowledge) but it holds about 20ish log-ins, I haven't counted. It's fun to see from whence people come. Thanks again for the help, I will get to it I promise!

Camille - FANTASTIC!!! job on the dog portrait...and thanks for the link to my site. I am going to go ahead and put a permanent link to your site under my artists links header. And yes...I'm feeling much better..thanks for asking. I guess I didn't really have the flu after all.

Wow, that traffic thing is almost creepy. Just thought I'd check and see if you made out okay.

I didn't see your Buddha painting on Karen's blog. Did you participate in the challenge this week?

Maggie, I don't remember if I thanked you for putting my link on your site so I'm thanking you now!

I still haven't started my Buddha painting as I've had a busy couple of weeks. If I can knock something out today or tomorrow maybe I'll get mine in under the wire. Hmmmmmmmmm... :)

I'm so sorry about Rio. You did a fabulous job with his portrait. You bring so much to DSFDF, each of your entries are so good.

Both of those things you said are food for my soul, Dominique, thank you so very much. I am really enjoying your work also!

This is my favorite painting of yours, when I saw it I let out an involontary Aaah! Such beautiful eyes, I bet you miss him still.

Rio looks like he was a happy guy! I like your use of color and composition in this one. I looked at Maggie's, too. It's nice to see the animal art out there!
Someone told me recently that you can minimize this comment window (check your settings under comments, and select "comment form placement" - pop up window), so when someone is commenting, they can still look at your work. I tried it and I liked it.

What a wonderful portrait of your dear companion - you captured a very sweet expression - sorry to hear about your loss.

Thanks, Pattie and Edward! Rio always had a "smile." It has been several years since he passed away but we still feel his spirit around our home. Edward, I'm looking forward to seeing your portrait of Karin! :)

Beth, thank you! I visited your blog and saw some of your dog paintings -- I admire you for not only painting them but the rest of what you're doing for animal welfare. Very Cool. I'll keep checking for new doggies on your sites :) Thanks for visiting.
